OUR HISTORY

Over the last 46 years, the West Park Baptist Church family has experienced God’s power and His blessing. From its beginning in 1961 as a mission church meeting in a home until now, the church has been built on the solid foundation of proclaiming God’s Word.

West Park was officially organized in September 1961 as Faith Baptist Church. Over the next sixteen years, the church grew both spiritually and numerically. In December 1977, the name was officially changed to West Park Baptist Church and the church moved to its current location.

In December 1986, Pastor Sam Polson assumed the pastorate of West Park. Since then, we have experienced unprecedented growth. From approximately 100 people meeting in “World’s Fair Buildings” in 1986, to over 2000 current members, we have continued to maintain a spirit of love and unity. Under Pastor Sam’s leadership the church has built a new sanctuary, three education buildings, a Family Life Center, and a new Student Ministry building, and has been privileged to purchase 75 acres of property adjacent to our site. More importantly, we have experienced God’s power to change lives and bring new Believers into the Body of Christ through the ministry at West Park.

Reaching people for Jesus Christ in Knoxville and across the globe has always been our focus. Our Vision of “Glorifying God by leading people to Christ, uniting them with other Believers, brining them to maturity in the faith, and equipping them for ministry” is the foundation for our ministries. It is our desire to continue fulfilling this Vision—one person at a time—until Christ’s return!
