College Ministry
The aim of West Park's College Ministry is to help college-age adults (18-25 years old) love God, love people and impact the world. Here are some ways we do just that.
College Gathering
Sundays, 11:00 a.m.
Each week, we gather as a ministry to connect with and worship God. At The Gathering, we worship through music, times of prayer and relevant Bible teaching. We also reconnect with our community of fellow believers (with a little help from some coffee and doughnuts). You can find College Gathering each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in the Round Building (just behind The Hub).
College Full House
Thursdays, 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday evenings, the College Ministry meets in an area home for our small groups. We begin each Full House just hanging out and enjoying a home-cooked meal (absolutely free!). A little later, we'll break into groups for times of sharing, praying and studying God’s word together. These smaller groups give us the best opportunity to share life together as we follow Christ.
College Impact
We believe that college students have great potential for impact, and we think this is best done through serving -- the church, the community, and the world.
At West Park: Many of our students enjoy serving right "at home." Some of the best places for college-aged people to serve at West Park are in our children’s, middle school, high school, and worship ministries.
In Knoxville: We also provide opportunities to reach into the community. Specifically, our college ministry is involved in Compassion Ministry in the City and evangelism on college campuses.
Around the World: Participating in local and global missions may be the most life changing opportunity afforded any college student. Each summer, our College Ministry serves with one of West Park’s missionaries to share the love of Christ with the world.
Other College Events
Passion: Started by Louie Giglio, Passion is a growing movement of college students seeking to live for the glory and fame of Jesus Christ. In addition to other Passion projects, each year Passion hosts a worship gathering featuring some of the most dynamic worship leaders and Bible teachers in the Church today.
Retreats During both Fall and Spring semesters, we like to get away for a weekend to simply be together. We'll head to a campground by the lake or a cabin in the mountains to relax, play, share, worship and grow These weekends always prove to be a highlight of the year and a much-needed break.
Short-term mission trips: July 20-28, 2012, we are headed to the Bronx, New York, one of the five poorest congressional districts in the US. We will spend the week ministering on the frontlines, living among the "least of these" and seeing what God is doing in this city. Ministry might include: soup kitchens, kids clubs, construction and prayer walks. Applications and non-refundable deposit of $100 is due by April 1, 2012.
Activities: In addition to Passion, Fall and Spring Retreats and Missions Trips, our calendar is packed with many weekly and monthly activities. We’re always looking for an excuse (ultimate frisbee, pool party, all-nighter, Christmas party) to hang-out with each other. You can find a list of weekly/monthly activities on our church calendar.
